After I brainstormed the words Volume/Bulky/Blunt I began looking at different shells in books from the library, I had a few at home I also drew from, from these drawings I took 2 shapes that I like the best
Mind Map for Volume/Bulky/Blunt
Some Analytical drawings of shells! The 1st picture is from a book, the second drawn from a shell I had at home!
So I started Fashion last Monday and am enjoying it even more than I though I would, which I didn't even think was possible ! I'm working so much and am wrecked but it's so worth it ! Our brief focuses on shape and form which is really exciting! We've picked a trio of words out of 5 options, I went with Volume/Bulky/Blunt and began to brainstorm, sea shells really jumped out at me because if the variety in their shape and form.
There's something so soft and feminine about eggs,it's annoying me. I want to contrast this with a starker version. I painted the eggs white and filmed a males hand crushing them. On further reflection I should have Carlee Schneemaned the shit out of this....
This is the aftermath.
I'm just not ready for that road yet, could be on my way though...be warned I may ask you to roll around naked in inky eggs with me.
I wanted to have a more dramatic affect with the eggs insides so I repeated the performance using plain unpainted eggs, black ink and walked on a flat surface.
I did this again with varying shades of the one colour. The video is of the red shades, the photos the black ink.
I always feel like eating eggs is like a hen's back alley abortion or something, they had potential for life and we just casual eat them. Sounds melodramatic but you'd be thinking about that too if you'd been stuck draining eggs all day. Red's involved here, and the black, we'll black is just impartial.
After looking at the pieces form the paint experimentation I really began to think about colour and liquids, but also about solid things which hold liquid.
Many vessels are fragile and breakable but none more so than the egg. I wondered what would happen if I painted the eggs solid exterior and then filled the interior with a contrasting colour or ink and then smashed it.
So I did just that. I painted the eggs with acrylic paint first.Draining the yolk and white from the eggs was much more laborious. I had to tap a small hole in the top of the egg and trickle it out slowly, then through the hole using a dropper I filled the shells with paint.
Because of the interesting form of the crumpled paper, I was thinking about folds. A surface we all walk upon all the time that folds is a stairs, so I lined a staircase with paper and placed a painted egg in the middle of each step.
I stood at the top of the stairs and walked down in each step, crushing each egg as I went. I videoed the process.
The eggs exploded when crushed and their contents splattered onto the white paper which I then took to Studio 2 to dry.
The mixing of the coloured shells and the paint inside made some beautiful shapes and patterns.
